Dr. Lura Powell, President and CEO of Advanced Imaging Technologies

Dr. Lura J. Powell is President and CEO of Advanced Imaging Technologies, a medical imaging company that is developing and commercializing Diffractive UltrasoundTM, the first truly new soft tissue imaging technique to be launched in the last 25 years. From 2000 – 2002, she was a Senior Vice President of Battelle and Director of the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in Richland, WA, where she had responsibility for a budget of $600 million, 3800 employees and 2-million-square-feet of facilities. Prior to joining Battelle, Dr. Powell was Director of the Advanced Technology Program at the National Institute of Standards and Technology where she was responsible for the selection and management of a high-risk technology investment portfolio exceeding $2 billion. Currently, Dr. Powell serves on the board of directors of Avista Corporation, Kadlec Medical Center, and the Tri-Cities Industrial Development Council, and is co-chair of the BIO 21 initiative, appointed by Governor Locke. She also serves on the Strategic Directions Committee of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and on the Bioengineering and Environmental Health Visiting Committee of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Dr. Powell received a B.S. in Chemistry and Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Maryland.
