Lura Powell , CEO of Advanced Imaging Technologies
Lura Powell, former director of Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, serves as chief executive of a Richland firm developing a medical imaging technology. Advanced Imaging Technologies is developing ultrasonic holography with an initial emphasis on breast cancer diagnosis. George Garlick, AIT founder and patent holder, asked Powell to take the job after purchasing AIT's assets in May. The company, founded in 1995, attracted $20 million in venture capital, completed more than 200 clinical studies at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle and Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, and received FDA clearance. Powell plans to begin manufacturing imaging systems by the end of 2004. Since leaving PNNL last year, Powell has served on the boards of directors of Avista Corporation, Kadlec Medical Center, and the Tri-City Industrial Development Council, where she chairs the Medical Industry Taskforce. Gov. Gary Locke appointed her to chair Bio 21, Washington's Initiative in 21st Century Health.
