Region Nominations and Elections
Region J is seeking nominees for the following positions:
· Governor (2-year term - FY11 & FY12)
· Lieutenant Governor (1-year term - FY11)
· Secretary (1-year term - FY11)
· Treasurer (1-year term - FY11)
· Senator (2-year term - FY11-FY12)
· Collegiate Representative (RCR) (1-year term - FY11)
· Collegiate Communication Editor (RCCE) (1-year term - FY11)
· Collegiate Senator (RCS) (1-year term - FY11)
Fiscal Years
· Fiscal year 2011 (FY11): July 1, 2010 - June 30, 2011
· Fiscal year 2012 (FY12): July 1, 2011 - June 30, 2012

The following information is required on the form:
· Officer position you are applying for
· Name of nominee

Contact information for nominee (including day/evening phone number,
and email address)

· List of previous positions held (if any)

Provide a 200-word maximum candidate statement (why the candidate wants
to be in the officer position and what they hope to accomplish)
·
Provide a 150-word maximum candidate history (qualifications and
previous SWE leadership experience).
·
Provide any information as to whether you believe that you may or may
not have any company sponsorship for travel / time for the two
meetings.
These leadership positions within the Region provide
valuable experience within SWE and can be a step towards society
leadership. All members are encouraged to nominate themselves and/or
other eligible members. See below for eligibility requirements.

The
RCE, RCCE, and RCS positions provide invaluable interaction and
coaching from SWE leaders. These leadership opportunities sharpen
your career skill-set in the areas of leading and facilitation, group
dynamics and communication, and project leadership.
Eligibility Requirements and Duties
Governor
Eligibility Requirements:
· Candidates must be a voting member of SWE in good standing.
·
Candidates must be assigned to Region J as a member of one of the
professional sections or as a professional member at large (MAL).
·
Have served at least two years in the aggregate as a professional
member of the senate, as a professional section or members at large
president, or as a region officer, except that one year as a collegiate
senator may be counted toward this requirement.
· Governors may not serve concurrently as a member of the SWE board of directors.
Duties:
· Overseeing the operations and vitality of the regional structure
· Support Professional Sections, Collegiate Sections, and MALs
· Overview the Budget and Finances of the region
· Maintain the Bylaws and Update as needed
· Ensure Elections are carried out
· Conduct Region Meetings at least 3 times a year
· Complete Quarterly Region Reports timely
· Lead the Collegiate Region Team
· Attend these events and host Region J Meetings:
o Region ABJ Meeting, Locations TBD (Region A and B in FY11 and FY12 respectively)
o WE10, November 5 - 6, Orlando, FL
o WE11, October 12-15, Chicago, IL
o Region J Conferences for FY11 and FY12, Location TBD
· Oversee Region Conference Planning Committee
· Perform other duties as assigned by the SWE Director of Regions.
Lieutenant Governor
Eligibility Requirements:
· Candidates must be a voting member of SWE in good standing.
·
Candidates must be assigned to Region J as a member of one of the
professional sections or as a professional member at large (MAL).
·
Candidates must have served at least two years in the aggregate as a
professional member of the council or as a professional section or
members-at-large president. One year as a region collegiate
representative may be counted toward this requirement.
· Lt. Governors may not serve concurrently as a member of the SWE board of directors.
Duties:
·
The lieutenant governor shall assume the duties of the governor if the
governor is temporarily unable to serve
· Lead the Collegiate Region Team
· Join one of the Region Committees
· Attend these events and host Region J Meetings
o Region ABJ Meeting, Locations TBD (Region A and B in FY11 and FY12 respectively)
o WE10, November 5 - 6, Orlando, FL
o WE11, October 12-15, Chicago, IL
o Region J Conferences for FY11 and FY12, Location TBD

Secretary
Eligibility Requirements:
· Candidates must be a voting member of SWE in good standing.
·
Candidates must be assigned to Region J as a member of one of the
professional sections or as a professional member at large (MAL).
Duties:
· Maintain the records of the region
· Records minutes at region meetings and conference calls
· Join one of the Region Committees
· Attend National SWE Conference
· Attend Regional SWE Conference
· Maintain Region Community
· Maintain Region Listserv
· Manage Region Website
·
Perform other duties incident to the office of secretary, or as may be
assigned by the governor or the region council.
Treasurer
Eligibility Requirements:
· Candidates must be a voting member of SWE in good standing.
·
Candidates must be assigned to Region J as a member of one of the
professional sections or as a professional member at large (MAL).
Duties:
· Be responsible for the collection, distribution, and safekeeping of region funds;
·
Prepare, maintain, and report as directed on the financial position of
the region in relation to the approved budget;
·
Submit a financial report to the Society in accordance with established
procedures; and
· Join one of the Region Committees
· Attend National SWE Conference
· Attend Regional SWE Conference
·
Perform other duties incident to the office of treasurer or as may be
assigned by the governor or the region council.
Senators - Professional and Collegiate
Eligibility Requirements:
· Candidate must be a voting member of SWE in good standing.
·
Candidate must be assigned to Region J as a member of one of the
professional sections or as a professional member-at-large (MAL)
·
NOTE: Since the first senate position is currently held by a member of
the Pacific Northwest section (J003), members of this section are not
eligible to run for this second position.
Recommendations:
·
Senators should not serve concurrently as a member of the SWE Board of
Directors (BOD) and the SWE Senate, formerly known as the Council of
Representatives (COR).
·
Prior SWE leadership experience of at least one year would help the
Senator in the effective performance of her duties.
· Senators should have a working knowledge of the organization and its bylaws.
·
Senators should be able and willing to travel to Senate and Region
meetings and actively communicate at the Region level.
Duties:
·
Charting the strategic direction of SWE by developing and adopting
long-range goals for SWE.
·
Developing statements of external policy on issues or positions that
have broad implications for the professional environment and the
Society as an organization.
· Conducting essential dialogue on long-term trends and issues of common interest.
·
Appointing subordinate units to assist in the creation of strategic
directions or policies.
·
Communicating the outcome of the meetings to the board of directors and
their constituent SWE members.
· Timely voting upon recommendations from the membership presented as motions.
· Setting dues for membership grades.
· Allocating percentages of rebates..
· Establishing policies on the use and restrictions of contingency funds.
· Approving trademarks and emblems changes.
· Approving changes to regional boundaries
· Approving changes to bylaws.
· Attending Senate and Region meetings
· Being the voice of their constituents.
· Logging into SWE Senate Community and review postings.
· Perform other duties as assigned by the governor or by the Senate Speaker
Region Collegiate Representative (RCR)
Eligibility Requirements:
· 2 Years in SWE.
· Current Paid Member.
· Collegiate Member in FY11 (Graduate or Undergraduate Member).
· Good Academic Standing.
· Interest in getting involved in SWE at the Regional Level.
· Ability to Travel (must prepare a proposal for sponsorship)

· Representing collegiate members' interests among regional leaders.
Region Collegiate Communications Editor (RCCE)
Eligibility Requirements:
· 2 Years in SWE.
· Current Paid Member.
· Collegiate Member in FY11 (Graduate or Undergraduate Member).
· Good Academic Standing.
· Interest in getting involved in SWE at the Regional Level.
· Ability to Travel (must prepare a proposal for sponsorship)

Eligibility Requirements:
· 2 Years SWE Membership
· Attended a Region or Society Conference
· Held
a Section, Region or Society Leadership position in SWE (this can be
either an officer or leading a committee or event)
· Current Paid Member
· Collegiate Member in FY11 (Graduate or Undergraduate Member)
· Good Academic Standing
· Interest in getting involved in SWE at the Societal Level
·
Ability to Travel (Annual Conference – some help available in some
regions, Region Conference – some help available in some Regions, and
Spring Face-to-Face Meeting – some help available)
Duties:
·
